Weekly Bulletin and Calendar October 11 -17, 2020

Although UMBC continues to social distance at this time, our congregation continues to make a difference in the community and in connecting with others to learn more about God.  His work has not stopped!  We invite you to join us for Sunday School, Sunday Worship, Bible Study, Mid-Week Bible Study & Prayer and for Intercessory Prayer.

 

SERVICE TIMES

Sunday

    • 9 am Sunday School on Zoom (Contemporary Adult and Adult Mixed)
    • 10 am  – Sunday Worship. Join us Virtually on Facebook Live.  Announcements start approx. 9:50 am
    • 11 am – Youth Sunday School on Zoom.  There are classes for all ages!

Monday

    • 6 pm – Straight Talk & Men’s Bible Fellowship. The current theme is “Protecting your Faith; Fighting the Right Fight”. The focus is on how Men of Faith can prepare for battle to fight for families, communities and faith.
    • Women’s Bible Study is at 6:30 pm on Monday The class is studying the life of David, his ministry, and his mission.

Wednesday

    • 6 pm Midweek  Prayer and Bible Study.  Connect on Facebook

Intercessory Prayer

    • You are invited to join us in prayer Monday-Friday at NOON and Thursday evenings at 7 pm.
    • CAN WE PRAY WITH YOU or FOR YOU?  Our intercessors and ministers continue to lift up your needs and concerns through prayer.

    • Join Pastor Jones and Minister Sallie LIVE on Facebook at 10:30 pm for Night Manna!   The nightly devotional will resume on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.  Be safe everyone!

MDOT WILL BE WORKING ON THE NORTH SIDE OF CHURCH

Representatives from the Michigan Department of have notified UMBC that they plan to begin work soon on a barrier at the north side of the church.

MENS STRAIGHT TALK & BIBLE FELLOWSHIP

MONDAY’s at 6 PM (VIRTUAL) –  Facilitated by Deacon Wayne Lynn, the fellowship offers straight talk and truth built on a biblical foundation. Every week, men come together to study the Bible, learn from one another, and to be challenged and encouraged to live for something larger than themselves. The current theme is: Protecting your Faith; Fighting the Right Fight. ” Is the theme. According to Wayne Lynn, the fellowship will focus on “how we as Men of Faith can prepare for the battle to fight for our families, communities, and faith”. The group will explore God’s Word where it provides a battle plan and understands more about victory. The men enjoy the time together and the discussion. New participants are welcomed with open arms.

WOMENS BIBLE STUDY

MONDAY at 6:30 PM (VIRTUAL) – Join Via Phone or Zoom – Facilitated by Rev. Yvonne Young the course will take a deep dive into the life of David, his ministry, and his mission all while researching any comparisons from his life that mimic or parallel our daily lives.

THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to attend last weekend.  We are also very appreciative of our wonderful praise and worship all-female band, Zumba Exercise and Cooking Demonstration segments, designers of the beautiful aprons, our informative vendors, enlightening session presenters, and panelists of The Real Color Purple Table, the organizers of the senior care packages and Sunday dinner, tech team, and prayer warrior intercessory team. None of this would have been possible without women in the community that offered suggestions on topics and activities for the conference during our Sunday afternoon committee meeting Zoom calls. UMBC MISSION MINISTRY – Showing The Love of Christ Through Sharing

Union Missionary Baptist Church will be providing Thanksgiving Gifts to 75 families in the Greater Lansing Area. Our goal is to collect donations in the amount of $3,750.00.

All donations should be clearly marked “Thanksgiving Donation 2020”. All donations should be received by November 15. The Thanksgiving gift cards will be given to the families on November 21. Thank you for showing the love of Christ

PASTOR and First LADY APPRECIATION  – OCTOBER 24,  2020 @ 3 PM

Members and friends are all invited to participate in a social distancing Thank You Parade that is being planned for a gifted couple and a grateful church — Pastor Jones and First Lady Minister Sallie Jones. To show appreciation, please join at Union Missionary Baptist Church during this time and flash your vehicle lights or blinkers or wave your windshield wipers. Bring your cards, signs, poems, letters, art, gifts or other mementos to shower them with a thank you and words of encouragement.  This event is being coordinated by Barbara Davis.

 2020 HBCU FAIR – DATE & TIME To Be Announced

The Academic Excellence Ministry is preparing for a Virtual Event to share information about HBCUs.  High School and Jr. College students and parents are encouraged to participate in this event as well as HBCU ALUMNI.

The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, defines an HBCU as: “…any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary [of Education] to be a reliable authority as to the quality of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress toward accreditation.” HBCUs offer all students, regardless of race, an opportunity to develop their skills and talents.
