Growing in Knowledge
 (2 Peter 3:18b)

Sermon Text: 2 Peter 2:1 – But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who brought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

Propositional Statement : There is good reason to know what you know.  Today truth is mired by conspiracy theories and lies to gain advantage politically and economically.  It is incumbent upon those who know the truth to “know what they know,” lest the be drawn into destructive heresies.

Knowing what you know enables you to:

I. Avoid self-destructive behavior (v.1)
II. Avoid emulating destructive ways (v.2)
III. Avoid exploitation by deceptive words (v.3)

Conclusion: Jesus said: “And yea shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32). Know the truth to avoid personal destruction, to prevent the truth from being blasphemed, to halt the exploitation of deceptive words.  Study the word so that you “know what you know.” Job said: “I know my redeemer lives…(Job 19:25-29).
