Our 13th Annual HBCU College Fair took place at Union Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Area Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors gathered to start preparing and planning for their college journey. Students enjoyed several opportunities to gain great information including financial resources. Representatives from many HBCUs were on site to provide information and answer questions.  Richly informed sessions and panel discussions were also enjoyed to help each student create their game plan for the future.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson loads up a trunk with food and other items as part of his Holiday Hope for Families event held at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Lansing, the church where he and his wife Cookie were married. The event served 800 Lansing area families with donations from a variety of organizations like Feed the Children, Kroger, and Avon on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023. Over 120 volunteers from five churches, corporate sponsors and visiting students helped run the event.
Members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), also known as the “Divine Nine,” visited UMBC today. The NPHC is a group of nine historically Black sororities and fraternities. The Divine Nine serves as an agent to raise “community awareness and action through educational, economic and cultural service activities,” according to the NPHC website.
