Today’s Sermon Outline

Matthew 16: 18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”

GROWING IN GRACE – 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace and in knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

GLORY TO HIM FOREVER –  (2 Peter 3:18c)

Sermon text: 1 John 4:4 –You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Propositional statement: Life will present us with many obstacles that seem impossible to overcome.  However John teaches that He who is in us is greater that he who is in the world.

Because He abides in us:

  1. Weovercome self-destructive behavior (3:24)
  2. Weovercome the deception of others (vs. 1-3)

III. We overcome worldly distortions of the truth (vs. 4-6)

Conclusion: We celebrate the birth of the Lord historically. But we also celebrate His birth in us. His presence in the world is through His presence in us. It becomes ours, then, to give birth to a way of life that honors Him; to proclaim Him as Lord, and to give Him life in others.

The poet wrote: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow… His birth in us is the real Christmas story.  Because of Him, we are overcomers!
